I had a great time on Sunday shooting Joanna and Alex’s wedding at The Tythe Barn in Launton near bicester.
I met up with Joanna and her bridesmaids/family at her Mum and Dad’s farm over in Longwick and what a beautiful place it is. The weather was perfect and it was great to be able to use the farm for some of the detail shots. Joanna seemed very relaxed and you could sense the excitement from her 6 bridesmaids as she finished her final preparations and got into her dress which totally suited Joanna’s elegant style. A few shots outside and it was time to head over to the barn to see the boys.
As the weather was so great Joanna and Alex got the outdoor wedding they always wanted and the barn looked amazing with flowers and live music helping to create a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Alex was looking sharp in his Navy three piece suit greeting guests as they arrived and having a few laughs with his Best Lady and Ushers. The scene was set for a beautiful ceremony and that’s exactly what we got with two funny and heartfelt readings from close friends and then a surprise at the end with the band popping up amongst the guests to sing “All You Need Is Love” just before Alex and Joanna made their trip down the aisle as husband and wife!
Instead of confetti everyone threw lavender creating quite a funny shot your see below and the whole garden smelt of summer for the rest of the day. Everyone enjoyed basking in the sun having a few drinks and canapes whilst I did some group shots and there was plenty of time for documentary shooting before dinner which I just love!
The wedding breakfasts are always great at The Tythe Barn with Jamie Oliver’s company “Fabulous Feasts” doing the catering and the barn was decorated beautifully with lovely personal touches from the travel theme Alex and Joanna had chosen.
I chose to do Alex and Joanna’s portraits after dinner as I knew the light would be perfect at that time with the sun a couple of hours from sunset and I got some beautiful shots of them both as we walked the grounds around the barn.
So it was now time for the speeches and Leo, Janet, Alex and Natalie did a fantastic job delivering stories from Joanna and Alex’s past and years together as a couple. Leo and Janet thought back to when Joanna was a rosie cheeked farmers daughter helping out around the farm. Alex retold the story of how he met Joanna and how he knew he loved her from that moment on and Natalie relived the years she and Alex shared growing up together as cousins and even reminded Alex of his previous dress sense by producing an old basketball jersey that Alex still managed to slip on over his suit!
After enjoying the last rays of sun in the garden it was time for Alex and Joanna’s first dance and they sure put those ballroom lessons into action with some very classy moves before their friends and family flooded the dancefloor to enjoy the live band for the rest of the evening.
Joanna and Alex, I’m never going to forget your wedding, it truly was perfect and I can’t wait to show you the huge collection of photos I have. Thanks for asking me to capture your day and I hope you have a fantastic time in Cuba! Heres your sneak peek!
(Huge thanks also to Chris Thornton for assisting and 2nd shooting, great job as always mate).
